NYC Here We Come!

Hello again! We arrived at Hazlet, NJ to find a new way to make left turns. Have you heard the expression - Go north to go south? Well, in Allentown, PA and Hazelet, NJ you go right to turn left. Boy, did I really mess up. We had to go a few blocks out of our way to find another left turn opportunity.

Tuesday
Up Early! After breakfast we walked from the hotel to the New Jersey Transit (NJT) depot, about .4 of a mile. There was a very large parking lot for the commuters. It would be a one hour ride. We asked a woman standing on the platform how to get tickets to NYC. She said, "NO TIME, get on the train now!" We stepped on the train, sat on the first seat (side riding seat) and the train started. The conductor stepped in the door and asked, "Where are your tickets?" TICKETS! What tickets? We did not know how or where to buy our tickets. He pulled his ticket pad out and started punching codes. We found out later he could charge us a fee for boarding the train without tickets -but he did not! Praise The Lord! for favor with the conductor. If we had not boarded when we did we would have to wait another hour for the next train.
Next stop - New York Penn station! No! No! No! Not Newark Penn Station - NEW YORK PENN STATION!!!

NYC Penn Station - Why are those people just standing
around? Stay tuned for the explanation.

More commuters standing!

Several areas in NYC PS soldiers were just observing!

Talk more later!

Paradise to New Jersey

Talk about getting the cart before the horse -- last blog started with Morgantown, W.V. We then drove through Gettysburg, PA. The stark reality of the difficulty and hardship that everyone suffered was unbelievable! See the pictures of Gettysburg. From here we traveled through York, Lancaster, and the rest of the cities/towns that was mentioned in the last blog. Now we will pick up our adventures at Paradise.
It is the first day of the week and surely the weather will co-operate with us. Our first stop was to taste Shoo-Fly-Pie at Dutch Haven Gift Shop and Bakery. One taste is enough! Next, we visited the Menninite Store. There were many items concerning the Old Testament Tabernacle. Boy, was it hard to walk out of the store. Our last "shopping" stop before hitting the highway was at East Earl, PA. This was a large Amish/Menninite community which included a very huge grocery store plus a store called "Good Stuff" - contents: clothing, hardware, notions, fabrics, furniture, etc.
Onward and upward! Albany here we come!!
Rain! Rain! Rain! Very HEAVY rain! Thus causing slow progress. As we were approaching Kutstown, PA. a sign appeared on the side of the road, thru the rain, "Do Not Tailgate" - we could not be sure if we were or not due to the cloud burst - it was as if we were Hanzel and Gretel following crumbs since we were passing the city of Krumbville. Our plan was to overnight in Bethleham but since we had made very few miles we deciced to continue on. We ended our day at Hazelet, N.J. We traveled ONLY 100 miles this day!
See you next time!

Did someone say RAIN????

Mom's Guardian Angel was with us the whole way.

Spent Saturday night at Morgantown WV. Next morning, we woke up hoping there would be NOOOOOooooo rain.

On the road again, and on to Pennsylvania Dutch Amish Country: Bird in Hand, Ronks, Strasburg, Smoketown, and Paradise -it almost was paradise - this hotel's jacuzzi rested our weary bodies. Because we listen to books on CD - via the library - we are familiar with the various town names of this area. Beverly Lewis and Wanda Brunstetter write novels about the Amish life.

Left Lexington after dropping off Ms. B to her vacation location, about 2 PM on Saturday, July 23rd.

Driving down I-64 we passed Morehead and Ashland Kentucky. Then we passed over the West Virginia border into Huntington and onto Charleston. Oh yeah - "MOM don't forget to change highways!" Now we are on I-79 heading towards the town called "Gassaway". I love looking at all the unusual town names.

RAIN!!!!!!!!!!! very HEAVY rain!!!! should we pull over??? nah just keep going....
